Helen Thomas: I Saw A Black Man In Obama And Automatically Assumed That He Was A Liberal - Boy Was I Wrong

Disgusted Helen Thomas: I Automatically Assumed Obama Was Black, Therefore He's Liberal

BEHAR: Things have changed. And President Obama, do you like him? Do you think he is doing a good job? We started out the conversation before about it a little bit.

THOMAS: I think he lacks courage.

BEHAR: He lacks courage?

THOMAS: And he is not a liberal. I had hoped he was. I suppose I thought he was, because he was black, I thought he would automatically be–

BEHAR: Well, that was your mistake.

THOMAS: That was my mistake. I thought he would be a liberal.

BEHAR: Can’t judge a person by the color.

THOMAS: Absolutely. You are so right. But I really thought that he would have an empathy for all the blacks, what they had gone through in life.

BEHAR: Well, I think he does have empathy, but he is up against a Republican machine, and he has to get reelected. You know, I mean, he’s in a tough spot. Doesn’t he have to get re-elected? He needs the middle, doesn’t he?

THOMAS: You take a stand on something in your life. You should have principles and stick to them.

Earlier in the interview, Thomas slammed Obama for failing to get out of Iraq faster:

BEHAR: But -- I have to tell you that, you know, I admired you, many -- I admire you even now, for the many things that you did in those press conferences, how you stood up to presidents, how you spoke out, particularly on the Iraq war, which I was vehemently against myself. And one of the reasons that I liked Obama was that he was against the Iraq war.

THOMAS: Almost.

BEHAR: Well, he was against it. I mean, I think that he ran on that.

THOMAS: Well, you know, let's see it fulfilled.

BEHAR: Well, you know, I think he was handed something, too. So let's -- I always expect the best from him.

THOMAS: I never have sympathy for presidents. They aren't handed -- he could have walked out the day after he took the oath.

BEHAR: Well, I guess so, but I don`t know if -- you know, what happened to if you break it, you have to fix it, you know?

THOMAS: It was broken.

BEHAR: It was broken. So we had an obligation to stay there, no?

THOMAS: No, you just get out. How did he go in?

BEHAR: Well, he didn`t go in. It was George Bush who went in.

THOMAS: Yes, he is, but he -- he didn`t have to stay there.

No Talk On Obama's "Veto-less First Term"

With President Obama enjoying a Democratic House and Senate for the first half of his term - the "astro turfed" claim that was used against President Bush has not transpired.

"When Will President Obama Issue His First Veto Over Congressional Legislation As Proof Of The 'Check and Balance' Of The Executive Branch Is Working and He Is Not Merely A Rubber Stamp?"

If nothing else - we must use this example as proof that the press and other operatives are responsible for crafting the narratives that become popular.

Keeping Your Enemies On Trial 101: George Sorros

Notice how we never hear about the US Senate in this big budget debate. (Yes I realize that the President sends a budget guideline to the US House and it is the House that is charged with initiating the budget process.)

Soros makes the supposition that the cuts that the GOP seeks are for "Ideological ends" but never ventured to suggest that the cries for expanded stimulus spending and tax increases on the rich are for Ideological Purposes for his favored Progressives.

At the end of this entire budget process we are going to be talking about the "Social Justice Program Cuts that the Republicans forced Obama's hand into signing".

If you ever want to see how "Establishment Authority Denial" works - look no further.

"The Devil Made Me Do It" has never been more true.

Ronnie & Barry Go To Philly

These two men have "united" Black people more than any other US President in modern history.

  • Reagan - Still today Black Progressives join with their Progressive brothers to blame Reagan for our present economic fate, the fall of labor unions and the influx of CRACK into the Black community
  • Obama - Despite the fact that the budget deficit in the single year of 2010 was greater than all of the deficits in 8 years of Reagan - Obama escapes the indictments for his economic policies that are assigned to Reagan.  In fact they made the case that he didn't spend enough debt money.  Obama's ability to unify Blacks is because most Black Progressives seek to defend him against any attacks from Republicans and "Reagan Democrats".  They live vicariously through Obama's shoes and thus it feels like they were assaulted when he is.

Obama's Race Speech:

Like the anger within the black community, these resentments aren't always expressed in polite company. But they have helped shape the political landscape for at least a generation. Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism.

The Ignorant Attacks On Michelle Obama

First lady depicted as fat, chowing down hamburger platter in cartoon

Those who traffic in hatred and slander for the sake of scoring political points should be ignored.

Instead in today's vitriolic environment the following process takes place:

  1. Just like in the classic gang war - One side strikes - claiming that "they are doing to them what they did to one of OUR GUYS"
  2. Those who are loyal to the side that received the attack merely parade the evidence of the attack (the battered corpse) among the crowd of their own followers.  This enforces the fact that their enemies know no shame
  3. As a rebuttal to this particular attack the attackers among the group in receipt to the last attack fire back in their own way
  4. Thus allowing the other side to highlight this new attack as an indictment on their favored channel.
All of this is taking place on a SHIP THAT IS SINKING!!

Where is the call for "Respect For Institutions"?
No I am not just asking anyone to stay silent as the occupant of a given institutional seat fires at them.
It is necessary, however for occupant to express their own respect for the institution.
Most important of all - in the days of "Twitter" where a give personal's thoughts can be propagated to millions - IT IS TIME TO IGNORE THE IGNORANT!!!
Do not allow their words to hijack our attention.

I don't agree with all of the attributes of the First Lady's strategy to fight obesity but I think that the political attacks need to be reigned in and ignored.

Washington (CNN) - First lady Michelle Obama is often praised for her taut arms and athletic physique. So why is a cartoon depicting her with fat cheeks, a double-chin and chowing down a platter full of hamburgers?
The cartoon appears on The man behind the site is blogger and conservative firebrand Andrew Breitbart.

In the cartoon, the first lady is shown saying: "I've stepped up my efforts to control America?s eating habits by telling restaurants to lower portion sizes and fat content." The drawing shows a plump Mrs. Obama working her way through a plate full of hamburgers and fries.
In contrast, President Obama thinly drawn at her side- is shown eating what appears to be light vegetables from a near-empty plate.
"Michelle, I want to get re-elected. What you're doing is only going to annoy a lot of people," the cartoon depicts the president as saying.
"Shut up and pass the bacon!" the first lady shoots back in the drawing.
The real Mrs. Obama is pushing a nationwide initiative to decrease childhood obesity. A website devoted to the effort lays out how the waistlines of American children have been growing at alarming rates over the last 30 years.

Obama Sends Congress A $3.73 Trillion Budget As The Present Year's Deficit Projections Top $1.6T

Obama unveils $3.73 trillion budget for 2012

Yesterday's Sunday New York Times (which I purchased) has a front page headline noting that the newly proposed "2011/2012 Budget" has $1.1 Trillion in Savings".   They don't highlight two things:
  • This $1,100 Billion In Savings In DEFICIT Reduction Is Over A 10 Year Span
  • The PRESENT Single Budget Year Deficit Is Projected To Be Over $1,600 Billion!!!
How does one express the audacity to report on 110 Billion per year in SAVINGS when you are in the red by $1,600 billion in one year?

Obama Endears Himself To The Term Associated With The Progressive Nemisis - Ronald Reagan

Obama Refers To Himself As "The Gipper" In Farewell Speech To His Press Secretary

Since the Progressives let his reference to "States Rights for California" back when he was pushing for their right to set their own auto emissions standards - I am sure the will allow this to pass as well.

I have to give it to the AJC's Mike Luckovich.  The guy is funny despite being a lefty.

"All The President's 'Black' Men" Meet With Obama

The Obama's Meeting With Black Leaders: A Little Too Laid-Back ...

The best way to make my point is to contrast the recent Pre-Super Bowl "meeting" between President Obama and Fox New's Bill O'Reilly and the recent gathering of 10 Black Political organizations with the president.

The most common criticism rendered from "Progressives who are Democrats who are Black" is that Bill O'Reilly was 'Disrespectful' toward the "President Of The United States" as he constantly interrupted him.  This priority of their issue of offense just happens to match the criticisms that their ideological brothers on MSNBC keyed upon.  Even the venerable Bill Maher said that he personally was OFFENDED by how O'Reilly engaged with the President.  (Simply amazing folks).

The National Policy Alliance meets with the President

Less than two months after his last sit-down with the National Policy Alliance, on Tuesday President Obama met again with the group of African-American advisers. A coalition of 10 -- nine of which represent black public officials, including the National Conference of Black Mayors and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, plus the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies think tank -- NPA also met with Cabinet members and senior administration officials.
Countering the perception that the White House steers clear of such organizations, lest the president appear "too black," NPA additionally holds weekly phone conferences with White House advisers.

Who is the "National Policy Alliance":  An offshoot of the "Joint Center For Political And Economic Studies

The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies is one of the nation's premier research and public policy institutions and the only one whose work focuses exclusively on issues of particular concern to African Americans and other people of color. For over three decades, our research and information programs have informed and influenced public opinion and national policy to benefit not only African Americans, but every American.
The Joint Center's current research and analyses address critical issues in three key areas: political participation; economic advancement; and health policy. In conducting research and policy analysis and in disseminating our products, we seek to build partnerships and coalitions with Black Elected and Appointed Officials at every level of government and with like-minded organizations in order to broaden and strengthen the impact of our work.

Let us focus on the key construct of "RESPECT".

The last sentence from the press release above (in red) says it all.
The National Policy Alliance is more interested in ACCESS TO POWER - as expressed through meetings than they dare look at the conditions WITHIN the Black community and express some indignity.

This amount of "enforced respect" for the "Commander In Chief" in the context of mass suffering among Black people has not been seen since there was a threat to physical violence resulting from such public display by a Negro.  (See Woodrow Wilson).

If you read the viewpoints of many of their "Progressive who are Black" thought leaders - they wish to avoid giving "racists" a green light in attacking Obama because THEY attack him as well.   As they transfer their own disposition with "their guy" who is in the seat of power into a reference to THEIR ENEMIES - the only possible result is that the BLACK COMMUNITY will be forced to place our own "Permanent Interests" on forbearance.   The fight against "the enemy" is more important.

For me - as a Black man - MY ENEMY is:
  • The systematic FAILURE to engage our human resources into productive use WITHIN the Black community
  • The systematic FAILURE to leverage the control that "favorable people" now have over our key "Human Resource Development" institutions - to follow through in preparing our young people to assume leadership roles in our community in the future
  • The systematic FAILURE to field a set of CULTURAL ENFORCEMENTS which promote certain behaviors that are incontrovertibly more productive in support of our present needs for UPLIFT

My 2011 theme across all of my blogs that focus on issues WITHIN the Black Community is "What is the COST upon the Black Community as it chooses 'ideological unity enforcement' and 'promotion of their favored political power' over the DISPASSIONATE pursuit of the "Permanent Interests" of our community.

The key problem is that they ADVANCE THE IDEOLOGY THAT THEY HAVE BOUGHT INTO over any RESULTS that would cause them a measure of introspection.

The real COST is that - in the context where Black people have the final say on WHO represents where we live in our highest concentrations and WHAT they believe in the way of political theory - the only thing that we can logically conclude is that as their grievances have not abated - they have CHOSEN to do everything necessary to remain as they are.  They should content themselves with this fact.
