Tom Daschel - I Think Obama Is Talking To You - "Bring It On" Says Obama To The Lobbyists

Obama Challenges Lobbyists to a Legislative Duel

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama challenged the nation's vested interests to a legislative duel Saturday, saying he will fight to change health care, energy and education in dramatic ways that will upset the status quo.

"The system we have now might work for the powerful and well-connected interests that have run Washington for far too long," Obama said in his weekly radio and video address. "But I don't. I work for the American people."

He said the ambitious budget plan he presented Thursday will help millions of people, but only if Congress overcomes resistance from deep-pocket lobbies.

"I know these steps won't sit well with the special interests and lobbyists who are invested in the old way of doing business, and I know they're gearing up for a fight," Obama said, using tough-guy language reminiscent of his predecessor, George W. Bush. "My message to them is this: So am I."

The bring-it-on tone underscored Obama's combative side as he prepares for a drawn-out battle over his tax and spending proposals. Sometimes he uses more conciliatory language and stresses the need for bipartisanship. Often he favors lofty, inspirational phrases.

On Saturday, he was a full-throated populist, casting himself as the people's champion confronting special interest groups that care more about themselves and the wealthy than about the average American.

Some analysts say Obama's proposals are almost radical. But he said all of them were included in his campaign promises. "It is the change the American people voted for in November," he said.

Nonetheless, he said, well-financed interest groups will fight back furiously.

Its this emblematic of the CHANGE that has taken place in this nation?
Former President Bush was attacked for saying "Bring it on" to the terrorists who sought to attack our nation. He was attacked previously for calling "Iraq, Iran and North Korea" as "The Axis Of Evil".

Now we have President Obama using the same vernacular against "DOMESTIC TERRORISTS who threaten the United States". No I am not talking about a SLEEPER CELL!!

I am talking about the Health Care Insurance lobby. Having just attended a "Single Payer Health Care" symposium this week - I am none too surprised with Obama's stance. He is but a more "insider" version of the extreme left progressives that sponsored the event. Where as they are of the opinion that THE UNITED STATES DOES NOT HAVE ANY SCARCITY, Obama's budget which doubles the size of the federal government in one fell swoop has the POWER and AUTHORITY to test this theory. We will soon see, in my opinion, if our fiat currency can indeed mask the "scarcity" of economic resources and the natural rationing that must take place in order to have a credible system. After all - if we could just print up money and make everyone millionaires - all of our problems would go away, indeed.

Fear not, Obama seems to take the view similar to what I had heard this week - If we could just get rid of the Insurance companies who suck the money out of our heath care system in PROFITS......the money left would be able to fund EVERYONE and we could not only retain but INCREASE the quality of care.

As more and more people are removed from the federal tax rolls and they receive an increasing amount of resources from the federal government - we will begin to see that "the good ole days" were not so bad after all.

"We're struck with how bold and courageous a budget it is," said James Horney of the liberal Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which supports the president. "There are a whole lot of things that are going to be extremely difficult because there are very powerful vested interests out there that will fight them."

Obama is not simply proposing a budget that assumes a jaw-dropping deficit of $1.75 trillion this year, a quadruple increase from the year before. He's trying to redirect strong currents in American society.

The wealthiest 5 percent would pay a whopping $1 trillion in higher taxes over the next decade, while most others would get tax cuts. Industries would buy and trade permits to emit heat-trapping gases. Higher-income older people would pay more for government health insurance benefits. Drug companies would receive smaller profits from the government. Banks would play a much smaller role in student loans.
Obama's budget faces huge hurdles

Stop right there. IF you are DOUBLING THE FEDERAL BUDGET from $2,000 to $3,600 per year but the new revenues from the evil rich people are $100 billion per year........DOES IT TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST to see a big problem?

I get the sense that LIBERALS are reading up on their talking points as a means of JUSTIFYING the doubling of the Federal budget after years of talking about out of control deficits and reckless spending.
